Pumpkin Seed Oil or Cucurbita pepo Seed Oil to give it its proper name, is one of mother nature’s best ingredients for healthy, vibrant, youthful-looking skin. Pumpkin use dates back as early as 1300 A.D. but the earliest confirmed date of Pumpkin Seed Oil use was much later, in 1697. Pumpkin Seed Oil was originally used in food and, even today, it is still not that commonly used in skincare - which is what makes our Rock & Rose Face Oil so unique!
So why did we decide to incorporate it into our award-wining face oil?
Well, I wanted an oil that addressed my, at the time, very tired (battered!!) looking skin (yes, I’d just had a baby!). My skin was lacklustre and was both dry and spotty, and I sought an oil that tackled the wrinkles that seemed to be appearing at an alarmingly fast rate (again I blame the baby!) Now, you will never find the word anti-ageing on any of our products, because we believe in embracing the number associated with your birth year, age is just a number to us and not something to feel at odds with. But I DID want a moisturiser that tackled the tell-tale signs of premature ageing and that would give me back my pre-birth GLOW that seemed to have disappeared in childbirth! And so I researched many oils and found that Pumpkin Seed Oil is one of the best out there in terms of slowing down the ageing process and firming the skin, while also keeping it super moisturised, toned and brightened. Winner winner!
What makes it so effective?
The 3 main components in this wonderful oil are Fatty Acids, Zinc and Antioxidants.
Fatty acids – The unsaturated fats found in pumpkin seeds help to deeply moisturise and keep your skin hydrated for longer whilst also being able to contribute to balancing out any oil to dry areas. Fatty acids (omega 3s and 6s) deliver mega hydration as well as reinforcing and smoothing the skin’s surface. I loved the high content of fatty acids in Pumpkin Seed Oil because it gave visible improvement to my complexion, instantly calming the signs of external stressors, including redness and sensitivity. It can eliminate signs of flaky, dehydrated-looking skin, noticeably strengthening skin against signs of environmental damage.
Zinc - Is a brilliant ingredient when a lifting effect is required, which is why it is often found in eye serums and abdominal, upper leg & breast lifting/firming preparations. It can help control any inflammation as well as boosting the immune function leading to reduction in breakouts. It visably firms and tightens skin and helps with skin renewal, revealing smooth new skin underneath. Zinc applied topically also aids in maintaining the skin’s collagen levels, which keeps skin healthy and looking great.
Antioxidants - Protect your skin against free radicals, which are molecules in the environment that damage your skin by clinging to your collagen and weakening elasticity. Antioxidants neutralize those free radicals to protect your skin from damage and some antioxidants, like those found in Pumpkin Seed Oil, also brighten your skin, calm irritation and even smooth fine lines.
But like most things in life, teamwork makes for even better results! And whilst Pumpkin Seed Oil is definitely a winning ingredient for skin, it’s the synergetic relationship with the other the oils in our Rock &Rose Face Oil that brings out the best in this wonder oil.
