I love face oils, but until recently, I used them only at night. I have oily, acne-prone skin, and I always found oils too heavy for daytime use. I don’t know if my skin has become less oily over the years, but lately, I’ve been loving adding oils to my morning routines. We are approaching winter here in Melbourne, and a few drops of a light day oil (on top of a water-based hydrating serum) keeps my skin soft and glowing all day long.

My selections below are all light and non-greasy, and they would work equally well as picks for spring/summer (in case you live in the northern hemisphere and are approaching summer, lucky you!). Most of my selections below will suit most skin types, including oily and acne-prone.

Rosalena Beauty & The Beast Face Oil: A new discovery, this has become one of my favourite new oils. This ultra-light oil has a lovely citrus/woody scent that I just can’t get enough of. Super hydrating and brightening, the feel, smell and texture of this oil reminds me of Vintner’s Daughter. Certainly worth a try if you don’t have the budget for Vintner’s but want something similar. Highly recommend. PS: How cool is its name!

Intense Formulas Face Serum: This newly-launched, Australian-made oil contains squalene, which gives it a silky, silicone-like texture. For those of you who wear foundation, this would work well as a primer under makeup. It is unscented and non-irritating, and layers well with more ‘active’ products. The packaging is super-luxe, with great attention to detail. Big thumbs up!

African Botanics Neroli Infused Marula Oil: I received this bottle at the start of spring/summer last year, and while I really liked it, I found it a little too heavy for summer (for my oily skin, at least). I rediscovered this oil a few weeks ago, and its medium-weight (yet non-pore-clogging) texture is just perfect for the cooler months. It smells amazing, and I have been using it liberally both day and night. African Botanics have a chicer, more Chanel-esque new dropper bottle packaging for this product (which they kindly sent me a bottle of), but I still prefer the convenience of my old, spill-proof pump bottle (pictured).

Moroccan Natural Finest 24K Gold Serum With Rose Oil: This silky-smooth oil has a small but powerful ingredient list. It contains gold leaf suspended in a blend of argan, jojoba and prickly pear oils. I love using it both day and night, and it nourishes the skin without overloading it. I expected it to have a powerful rose scent, but the rose is very subtle and reminds me of the Indian dessert gulab jamun. Fantastic quality, especially for the price.

Argentum Apothecary L’Etoile Infinie Face Oil: I originally reviewed it here, and I still love it for its pared-down simplicity. It contains just argan oil, abyssinian seed oil, kukui oil and tocopherol (Vitamin E), and I love using it when I want a non-irritating all-in-one product. It’s one of the most versatile oils in my collection, and I absolutely love it. It’s very pricey for what it is, but the quality is just exceptional.

Max and Me I Am The Light: As I mentioned in my recent review, this brightening oil contains the most exquisite blend of oils and extracts. I love using it in the mornings, and its unique floral scent is both nurturing and uplifting and the same time. Love it!
