Want tighter, brighter and more youthful skin? Buriti oil may well be the answer. Sourced from the fruit of Brazil’s native palm trees, this anti-ageing powerhouse is a hot topic in the beauty world, and with good reason. Read on to discover why this hero ingredient should have pride of place in your skincare arsenal...

What exactly is it?

Shaping up to be the next big thing in skincare, buriti oil is sourced from the Brazilian buriti tree, the country’s native palm tree. A cold-pressed, all-natural oil, this bountiful beauty secret has since made its way into serums and creams in recent months, and is prime to rejuvenate and smooth the complexion.

What makes it different?

With three times more antioxidising beta-carotene than carrots, buriti oil is the richest source of beta-carotene (vitamin A) in the world. When vitamin A is applied topically to the skin, it converts into an active form of the vitamin called retinol, a supercharged nutrient that can boost collagen production and cell turnover as well as neutralise free radicals from pollution and fade pigmentation. If that wasn’t enough, buriti oil is also packed with oleic acid, essential fatty acids and vitamin E for an impressive hydration hit. Plus, studies are also underway to confirm its potential as a mild SPF, meaning it could be used in the long run to protect against sun damage.

Got you. Who will benefit most?

Buriti oil has strong healing properties, making it an ingredient to note if you struggle with sun damage, dryness or are concerned with fine lines and wrinkles. Everyone should consider using it topically to maintain a youthful and healthy complexion.

Where can you find it?

Most commonly found in its natural state in skin-soothing oils (we love RMS’s cult Beauty Oil, £74, and award-winning Rosalena’s Frank & Sense Face Oil, £42), buriti oil can also be found in Pai’s hot-off-the-press Buriti Balm, £20, a botanical iteration of Eight Hour Cream ideal for ultra-dry, sensitive and irritated skin types.

Anything else?

While the age-shielding effects of argan and coconut oils may be well known, buriti oil is giving these traditional ingredients a run for their money. You heard it here first.
