Channel Twiggy with a modern twist this festive season

Take inspiration from the Tadashi Shoji A/W show and get the modern-day Twiggy look

When I was looking for a way to update my make-up for festive fun and frolics, the modern-day Twiggy look at the Tadashi Shoji A/W show caught my attention. Feminine and slightly feline, the statement lashes and sprinkling of glitter look party-ready but not outlandish. To create it, add a smidgen of lip balm – try Kevyn Aucoin The Exotique Diamond Eye Gloss in Moonlight (£31, spacenk.com) – to a cotton bud and dot it on to the inner eye corner and at intervals below the lower lashes. Dip a fresh bud into Mac Glitter in Brass Gold (£16.50, maccosmetics.co.uk) and dab it on top of the balm (use sticky tape to remove any stray fragments from your face).

Style your lashes à la Twiggy '67 this season

Now, for those lashes you need to go big: enter the new digital Bespoke Mascara service from Eyeko (£30, eyeko.com). Simply answer its questions about the length, curl, volume and lash separation you want and, from 100 options, it will find the right formula and brush combination for you. If you want to go the extra mile by doing as they did at Tadashi Shoji, swipe skinny lines of Mac Brushstroke Liner (£18.50, maccosmetics.co.uk) between lower lashes to create the illusion of fullness.

This week we're... taking a tip from make-up artist Florrie White, who has worked with Rosamund Pike and Alexa Chung.

Get glowing, soft skin like Rosamund Pike and Alexa Chung with Rosalena Beauty & The Beast Face Oil

For softer, springier skin, Florrie applies Rosalena Beauty & The Beast Face Oil pre-make-up or at bedtime (£42, rosalena.co.uk).

Here’s an admission: floral scents have always made me claustrophobic – I feel trapped by their blossomy cloud. So it was rather a revelation to fall head over heels for Floral Street, a new collection of fragrances founded by Michelle Feeney, former boss of St Tropez tan.

Described as ‘modern florals’, all eight scents are cool not cloying, fresh not powdery and confident rather than girlie, thanks to unusual notes such as hazelnut, cassis kir, carrot seed and chilli pepper. I’m smitten with Wonderland Peony for day and Ylang Ylang Espresso for night, and will give a bottle of Chypre Sublime to my mother, as I know she’ll love it. This is a brand that truly stands out from the traditional fragrance crowd.
